<br />
I have been too preoccupied with life to bother keeping my blog up to date. So much has happened since my last post. Too much to go into, in fact. In short, I have been through several job transitions, my daughter moved away, back to Arkansas, and away again, and my sons are going into fine young men. My wife started working after 19 years or so taking care of me, the house, and our family. Still, as I said, its too much to go into.<br />
<br />
I mentioned job transitions. In 2010, I was working for CAT^2. After departing, I moved on to Aristotle for a few years. In 2012, it was on to EndToEnd Computing for a very brief engagement. I was very happy to find Northrop Grumman in November of 2012. As a .Net Developer, I fit in easily with the work they were doing for the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services. My team specifically worked in support of DCFS, and I was soon leading a team of 3 .Net Developers. Now, a full 5 years later, I have moved on. Deloitte won the contract, and NG is out as of December 31st, 2017 at midnight. I now work as a .Net Software Engineer for Vestcom Retail Solutions near Downtown Little Rock.<br />
<br />
I have also not been using this blog to post question and answers to technical issues I have encountered. I began relying more heavily on StackOverflow.com for that purpose. As of this moment, I show an impact of approximately 80k people there. Here is my profile link: <a href="https://stackoverflow.com/users/831800/taersious">https://stackoverflow.com/users/831800/taersious</a><br />
<br />
If you are reading this, I appreciate the visit to my blog. I will post more updates about work and family more often in the future as I am able.<br />
<br />

It took some Google-ing to find the answer, but the short of it is: it does not work.<br /><br />You have to deploy SSRS 2008 reports to an instance of SSRS running on SQL Server 2008 under an IIS site configured to use an SQL 2008 database.<br /><br />Sorry this post is so short. Every year I got the shot, and every year, I got the flu. Since then, I have not had one year that I contracted the flu.<br /><br />Now, they tell us that we have to be vaccinated against H1N1! I am not. I refuse! I will defend my right to refuse to be vaccinated. When I mentioned this to a co-worker, he said, "Oh, you mean like the Republicans did with the war?" <br /><br />So, spending money on abortions on demand is okay, but funding the war on terror is wrong? He may be right, that we didn't have the money allocated to fund the war. But how can that even be on the same playing field as the Liberal Health Care for Everyone plan, that is going to fully authorize any form of abortion, and stem cell research, and all manner of programs that are okay on their side of social norms?<br /><br />So help me understand, if you can.Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-20198502747081895522009-06-18T09:46:00.003-05:002009-06-18T09:48:54.101-05:00I am an SA - Assistant ScoutmasterDuring the Webelos Crossover Ceremony at our June 5-7 campout, I made the transition from the Pack Cubmaster to the Troop Asst Scoutmaster. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists. <br /><br />Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters. <br /><br />First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather than the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas than the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us (Russia) about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blinds the foolish. <br /><br />Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox (Russian Orthodox) churches are scandalously liberalized in America. <br /><br />The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more than another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe. <br /><br />These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more than ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them? <br /><br />These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters. <br /><br />Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions. <br /><br />So it should be no surprise that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.<br /><br />Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper. <br /><br />So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive. <br /><br />The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left. <br /><br />The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker. <br /><br /><strong>Stanislav Mishin</strong>Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-55676435422775862332009-02-19T13:15:00.002-06:002009-02-19T13:23:18.150-06:00Trouble with Report in BrowserI'll try to make this clear and concise. I have a report that has 2 required parameters. When run from the Reports site, the user picks the first parameter, then the browser refreshes with a drop-down list populated with values that are dependent on the resultset from the first parameter. This all works perfectly, until I want to call the report from an outside application.<br /><br />The 1st drop-down list is populated from a dataset with all Load Numbers.<br />The 2nd drop-down list is populated from a dataset with Order Numbers associated with that Load Number.<br /><br />Do do this, I have to use the ReportServer site. It works from here too when I pick a Load Number from the drop-down list, or when I manually enter the first parameter into the querystring (address bar) with something like: &MyLoadNumber=9999<br /><br />The report will load correctly when I choose the 2nd parameter from the drop-down list and click the View Report button.<br /><br />The problems creep in when I add the second parameter on the querystring like &MyOrders=BR549 - The browser goes out and gets the report, but what I get back is the report asking me for the 2nd parameter, even though it is right there in the querystring!<br /><br />I know it is a problem that the 2nd parameter isn't requested until the 1st one is loaded correctly, and the dataset for the 2nd parameter has the 1st parameter as a required parameter for it. <br /><br />If you are reading this and you know what I can do to solve this, please post a comment. I'll be sure to tell my boss you helped me! ;)Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-5412179173481595572009-02-16T13:44:00.002-06:002009-02-16T13:47:09.148-06:00Emergency Preparedness PlanEPP: We should all be ready with an emergency prep plan. As STSADM backup/restore can only be used at the site collection level, a different approach was required.<br />As of WSS v3, there are two new STSADM commands - import and export.<br />The basic procedure to promote the subsite was to STSADM export the site to a file and then STSADM import it at the toplevel.<br />Here are the basic commands I used:<br /><br />Export subsite<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">stsadm -o export -url http://toplevel/sub_site/subsite -filename c:\subsite.bak -includeusersecurity -versions 4<br /></span><br />Import subsite<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">stsadm -o import -url http://toplevel/subsite/ -filename c:\subsite.bak -includeusersecurity<br /></span><br />A couple of things to note:<br />The -includeusersecurity switch ensures that all the columns such as modifed by, created by are maintained.<br /><br />The -versions 4 switch will ensure that all versions of list items/documents are exported.<br /><br />You must import/export to sites that share the same template. So a team site can only be exported and imported into another team site. You will know you are trying to import into non matching templates if you get the following error:<br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">"The exported site is based on the template STS#1 but the destination site is based on the template STS#0"<br /></span><br />This means that a site based on the blank template is trying to be imported into a site based on the team template. To my knowledge there is no easy way of changing a sites templates.<br />The following lists some of the common WSS templates:<br /><span style="font-size:85%;"><br /><table><tbody><tr><td width="100">Team Site</td><td width="100">STS#0</td></tr><tr><td width=100>Blank Site</td><td width=100>STS#1 </td></tr><tr><td width=100>Document Workspace</td><td width=100>STS#2 </td></tr><tr><td width=100>Wiki Site</td><td width=100>WIKI#0 </td></tr><tr><td width=100>Blog</td><td width=100>BLOG#0 </td></tr></span></tbody></table><br /><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div>Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-12070815219417655242008-04-23T11:43:00.010-05:002008-04-23T12:28:35.819-05:00NPC Skill Chart<div id="T2k NPC Skills Table" style="FONT-SIZE: 7pt; COLOR: #000000; FONT-FAMILY: verdana" align="left" valign="top"><table cellspacing="1" border="1"><tbody><tr><th width="123">Detail </th><th>Green </th><th>Rookie </th><th>Regular</th><th>Veteran </th><th>Expert </th><th>Elite </th></tr><tr><td width="123">Initiative</td><td valign="top" align="middle">1</td><td valign="top" align="middle">2 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">3 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">4 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">5 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">6 </td></tr><tr><td width="123">Observation </td><td valign="top" align="middle">6 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">8 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">10 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">12 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">14 </td><td valign="top" align="middle">16 </td></tr><tr><td width="123">Primary Wpn. All I could find was the the database was in use.<br /><br />I found this t-sql script to help me find out why the db was in use.<br /><br /><pre><br />USE Master<br /><br />DECLARE @dbid INT<br />DECLARE @dbname nvarchar(40)<br />SET @dbname = '[your_db_name_here]'<br />SELECT @dbid = dbid FROM sys.sysdatabases WHERE name = @dbname<br /><br />IF EXISTS (SELECT spid FROM sys.sysprocesses WHERE dbid = @dbid)<br />BEGIN<br /> --RAISERROR ('The restore cannot be done', 16, 1)<br /> SELECT 'These processes are blocking the db in question' AS Note,<br /> spid, last_batch, [status], hostname, loginame FROM sys.sysprocesses<br /> WHERE dbid = @dbid<br />END<br />ELSE<br />BEGIN<br /> SELECT 'There were no SPIDS using the database: ' + @dbname as Note<br />END<br /><br /></pre><br /><br />I ran this t-sql and saw that I had a single SPID (51) that was connected to my database. I executed 'kill [spid]' and then tried my drop db command again. Of course it didn't work. I then ran this script repeatedly by highlighting the code ind the SQL Server Management Studio code window and pressed F5 over and over until I could see that the command to drop the db was working.<br /><br />Not sure why that SPID kept reappearing. But the problem is fixed.Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-46872488344147437952008-03-05T18:41:00.022-06:002008-03-17T18:25:02.019-06:00T2K Base Hit Numbers (d20)We talked about posting a new hit chart including point blank and extreme range.<br />So I'll post the table here...<br /><table style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: red; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: red; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: red; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: red" cellpadding="1" border="1"><tbody><tr><th>Skill</th><th>PB (+6)</th><th>Short (+4)</th><th>Med (+2)</th><th>Long (stat)</th><th>Ext (-4)</th></tr><tr><td>10 </td><td>16 </td><td>14</td><td>12 </td><td>10</td><td>6</td></tr><br /><tr><td>9 </td><td>15 </td><td>13 </td><td>11 </td><td>9 </td><td>5 </td></tr><tr><td>8 </td><td>14 </td><td>12 </td><td>10 </td><td>8 </td><td>4 </td></tr><tr><td>7 </td><td>13 </td><td>11 </td><td>9 </td><td>7 </td><td>3 </td></tr><tr><td>6 </td><td>12 </td><td>10 </td><td>8 </td><td>6 </td><td>2 </td></tr><tr><td>5 </td><td>11 </td><td>9 </td><td>7 </td><td>5 </td><td>1 </td></tr><tr><td>4 </td><td>10 </td><td>8 </td><td>6 </td><td>4 </td><td>- </td></tr><tr><td>3 </td><td>9 </td><td>7 </td><td>5 </td><td>3 </td><td>- </td></tr><tr><td>2 </td><td>8 </td><td>6 </td><td>4 </td><td>2 </td><td>- </td></tr><tr><td>1 </td><td>7 </td><td>5 </td><td>3 </td><td>1 </td><td>- </td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: red; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: red; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: red; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: red" cellpadding="1" border="1"><tbody><tr><td>Stat</td><td>1 </td><td>2 </td><td>3 </td><td>4 </td><td>5 </td><td>6 </td><td>7 </td><td>8 </td><td>9 </td><td>10 </td></tr><tr><td>Adj.</td><td>-3 </td><td>-2 </td><td>-2 </td><td>-1 </td><td>0 </td><td>+1 </td><td>+1 </td><td>+2 </td><td>+2 </td><td>+3 </td></tr></tbody></table>Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-38158663202238563322008-03-04T14:05:00.003-06:002008-03-05T20:05:11.518-06:00Me.Brain.Dead()Me.Stomach.Empty(true)<br />Me.Oh.My<br />My.Head.Hurts<br />My.Bologna.FirstName('OSCAR')<br />Me.My.Big.Mouth(!funny)<br /><br />(and so on)Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-59478552323284157472008-03-04T11:31:00.003-06:002008-03-04T11:44:00.182-06:00ProjectServer 2007 Project Not Showing In Project CenterThis one had me stumped for over a week! RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.</span><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">Afer researching this, I discovered that it should work after upgrading the SQL 2000 engine to SP4 (as we had SP3). Over the weekend, we upgraded our production database to SP4. Then I tried the SharePoint restore to that production database again<br />(using <em>stsadm -o restore -directory \\server2\disks\sharepointbackup -restoremethod new</em> and applying the new db server name, server db and log file location, and then the new db names). The new error is:</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:courier new;font-size:85%;">SqlException: The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.</span><br /><span style="font-size:85%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:85%;">If anyone else is having a similary issue and knows how to get around this, please post a comment or email me.</span>Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-54675225154339437932008-02-15T10:01:00.007-06:002018-08-29T08:58:31.742-05:00osql query to text file - thanks to Brain Knight<pre>
Piping a Query to a Text File
By Brian Knight, 2001/05/21
The case where one has to send the results of a query to a text file comes up quite often. </pre>
<pre>General this case take the form of a maintenance script that you run through Agent nightly </pre>
<pre>and would like to see the results in the morning.</pre>
<pre>In the above example, you can create a CMDEXEC job to run the below command. This will </pre>
<pre>output the results of the query inside c:\inputquery.txt to a separate file.</pre>
<pre>
\mssql7\binn\osql -Usa -Ppassword -Ic:\inputquery.txt -Oc:\outputdir\output.txt
You can also use -E switch for trusted connection if you don't want to hard code a password </pre>
<pre>into your job. From an Query Analyzer window or inside the stored procedure you can run the </pre>
<pre>above statement with an extended stored procedure called XP_CMDSHELL:
master..xp_cmdshell 'osql
-Usa
-Pmisty
-dNorthwind
-Q"select * from products"
-oc:\output.txt'
The -Q parameter in the above syntax runs the query then exits ISQL. You may also want to </pre>
<pre>add the additional NO_OUTPUT parameter at the end of query as shown below to supress any </pre>
<pre>output to the client:
master..xp_cmdshell 'osql
-Usa
-Pmisty
-dNorthwind
-Q"select * from products"
-oc:\output.txt', no_output
There are other methods of piping a query to a text file by using OLE Automation but they </pre>
<pre>are much more complex than this method.

usage: osql [-U login id] [-P password]
[-S server] [-H hostname] [-E trusted connection]
[-d use database name] [-l login timeout] [-t query timeout]
[-h headers] [-s colseparator] [-w columnwidth]
[-a packetsize] [-e echo input] [-I Enable Quoted Identifiers]
[-L list servers] [-c cmdend] [-D ODBC DSN name]
[-q "cmdline query"] [-Q "cmdline query" and exit]
[-n remove numbering] [-m errorlevel]
[-r msgs to stderr] [-V severitylevel]
[-i inputfile] [-o outputfile]
[-p print statistics] [-b On error batch abort]
[-O use Old ISQL behavior disables the following]
<eof> batch processing
Auto console width scaling
Wide messages
default errorlevel is -1 vs 1

A box shipped today from the company we've chosen to replace Charter Communication as our TV entertainment provider. We chose Sky Angel <a href="http://www.skyangel.com/">(www.skyangel.com</a>) due to the now available Family Package along with their Faith Package. We were blowing through about $80/month to have digital cable (expanded basic). Now, through our broadband connection, we are watching TV over our home network. (They even have the Miliary Channel and NFL Network!) And the best part so far is that the commercials are not offensive, violent, sexually suggestive, or in any way a thing that would cause myself or my wife to yell out, "Close your eyes!" or "Don't look!" We are a family that loves God, and chooses to please Him. We couldn't be happier with our choice to drop cable and go with IPTV. If you are interested, you'll look at the price difference. I don't want to post them; I am not trying to be as salesman for them.Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-74503004399339362752008-02-14T13:47:00.008-06:002008-02-18T14:47:47.964-06:00IIS 7.0 Config change<div style="BACKGROUND: white"><p></p>This command-line execution will correctly configure your IIS settings after they get hosed by inadvertent changes or applications that make unwanted changes.<br /><br /><div style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; PADDING-RIGHT: 0in; BORDER-TOP: #b5c4df 1pt solid; PADDING-LEFT: 0in; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0in; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; PADDING-TOP: 3pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none"><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;color:#000000;">From:</span></b><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="color:#000000;"> Drew Coppock<br /><b>Sent:</b> Wednesday, November 07, 2007 3:27 PM<br /><b>To:</b> Drew Coppock<br /><b>Subject:</b> IIS 7.0 Config change</span></span></span></p></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="color:#000000;">RUN:<br /></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="color:#000000;">C:\Windows\system32<systemroot>\inetsrv\APPCMD.EXE set app "Default Web Site/" /applicationPool:"Classic .NET AppPool" <?xml:namespace prefix = o /><o:p></o:p></span></span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="color:#000000;">Should see<br /></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="color:#000000;">APP object "Default Web Site/" changed<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"><o:p></o:p></span></p></div>Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17310123916684931343noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6152737978187353040.post-18535469070037044152008-02-14T13:29:00.004-06:002008-03-04T11:48:51.187-06:00Did I mention I am a Cubmaster?Yep, it's true.
